TONY VERGARAPANAMÁ

An identity built from art, nature and craftsmanship.

Tony Vergara is a Panamanian fashion house founded in 2014 by the designer of the same name. Its creative work brings together drawing, textile illustration, handcraft and a personal interpretation of nature to develop collections of clothing, silk scarves and accessories.

With a creative career that began in 2008, the house has built a recognizable visual language through color, geometry, botanical motifs and the exploration of textile techniques. Each collection answers to its own concept and is part of a body of work in continuous evolution.

Tony Vergara's career began in 2008, self-taught, with the design and making of dresses and authorial collections. From his earliest work, hand drawing, experimentation with materials and handcrafted production formed the foundations of his creative practice.

In 2014 he officially established his namesake house, continuing a vision of design that brings together artistic disciplines and textile knowledge. Painting on fabric, relief embroidery, ornamental compositions and, later, silk scarves expanded the expressive range of the house.

His work has evolved through collections, presentations and collaborations that keep a constant relationship with the natural and cultural heritage of Panama.

In 2023 Bloomberg Línea included him among Latin America's 100 Innovators, in the Art and Design category. In December 2025, Forbes Centroamérica, in a joint edition with Forbes República Dominicana, named him in its “Los más creativos” (The Most Creative) selection.

Creative identity

A universe of its own.

Nature

Nature holds a central place in Tony Vergara's identity. Panama's botanical diversity, its species, landscapes and seasonal changes are recurring references in the making of each collection.

Form and symbol

Flowers, leaves, butterflies and other organic forms meet geometric compositions and symbolic elements to build a visual vocabulary of its own.

Color

Beyond its aesthetic role, color builds atmospheres, emotions and narratives. Every palette answers to a creative intention. The result is textile design that becomes a medium of artistic expression.

Philosophy

Thought turned into matter.

“My process always begins with drawing by hand. That makes every design a direct extension of my thinking: there is no intermediary between what I feel and what I create.”

— Tony Vergara

This statement sums up one of the house's founding principles: drawing as the starting point of the creative process. Tony Vergara's philosophy recognizes the value of authorship, craft knowledge and the time devoted to developing each piece.

The house understands fashion as a discipline able to bring together art, technique, cultural identity and individual expression. Its commitment is to preserve that relationship, even as its collections, materials and ways of presenting them evolve.

Craft and knowledge

The hands that build the house.

Craftsmanship is one of the pillars of Tony Vergara. Since the first collections, the development of textile techniques and collaboration with skilled professionals have helped define its identity.

An important part of this story belongs to the Guna master artisans, known within the house as the Compañeras Mágicas, whose experience and skill are part of how each piece is made. On the silk scarves, the hand-finished borders are where contemporary illustration meets craft knowledge.

Beyond production, the house sees the workshop as a place for sharing knowledge, learning and building together.

Tony Vergara's collections document the evolution of his creative thinking. From the first dresses and embroidery work to contemporary clothing and silk scarves, each stage has brought in new artistic references, materials and techniques.

Silk scarves hold an especially meaningful place in this journey. Conceived from original illustrations, they carry the house's graphic universe into a textile format that unites composition, color and handcraft.
